This is the "official word" from Sage on the number of licenses one person needs:
"The Sage license agreement states that you can install ACT! on a second computer using the same disk and serial number if you are in accordance with the 80/20 rule. That means that you must be the primary user on both machines. More specifically, you use one of them 80% or more of the time. For single-license users, you can install and register ACT! on two of your machines, but you must ensure that if you have different databases (including a remote database) on each machine, that you use the exact same user name to login to both databases, as any unique user names will require an additional license."
So in the scenario of a server license (above), no need for a unique license: Whomever needs access to ACT! on the server just needs to log on with the criteria of an active database user.
Now for more "official word" from Sage:
Sage is updating their Upgrade Pricing Obsolescence Policy as follows.
"Sage's Upgrade Pricing Obsolescence Policy is to honor upgrade pricing for customers with the current release and, in most cases, two prior releases of a product. If you’re using a version of Sage ACT! older than that, you’re not eligible for upgrade pricing and will instead need to purchase Sage ACT! at new pricing."
Based on this, if you are on Sage ACT! 2009 or older, you will no longer be eligible for upgrade pricing once this policy goes into effect on June 1 ;-(
